ELMONT JUNIOR FIRE DEPT - 709

The Elmont Junior FD - 709 was established in 1964 as Explorer Post 709. The purpose of the Junior FD is to encourage young adults, both male and female, to learn more about the fire service and perhaps become a firefighter or emergency medical technician. Over the years, many Juniors/Explorers have gone on to become members of the Elmont Fire Department. Some have also become career firefighters and EMTs with departments such as FDNY. There have been 21 Elmont FD chiefs who started as Explorers, including 10 of the last 11 Chiefs.
The Junior FD meets at different Elmont firehouses each month. At monthly drills, members are given hands-on experience in the operation of the varied firefighting and rescue equipment. Juniors are supervised by adult members of the Elmont Fire Department and are given all required uniforms and equipment at no charge. From time to time the Elmont Junior FD will drill and train with other Explorer Posts and Junior Fire Departments in Nassau County.
If you are a young adult ages 14 to 17 and are interested in learning about firefighting and emergency medical service, you may like to consider joining the Elmont Fire Department's Junior FD-709. The meetings are generally held the second and fourth Monday of each month (except May and December).
